It was really close to the bus stop and Takegawara Onsen. We loved the Beppu cold noodles restaurant called "Rokusei", which again was close to the hostel. The area around the hostel had a retro atmosphere, but the hostel itself was stylishly built. The prices were reasonable.

The seven hells of Beppu (Jigoku) are really great to fill a day. You can have a nice walk along the shoreline and the mall near the bay offers a great shopping opportunity. There are a few good restaurants that you can enjoy. The neighborhood around the Jigoku is quite nice, the rest of Beppu not so much. Two or three days are enough for this town.

We didn't have enough time to see other onsen areas.
We didn't have enough time to see other onsen areas. We did not rent a car so we traveled by bus. We did not get to see the onsen areas as I did want to try some of the other ryokan onsens. The only problem I had was with the stools that you sit on to swcrub yourself.

I really enjoyed the hot springs!
I really enjoyed the hot springs! I went to Hyotan Onsen and did the hot springs and sand bath. the sand bath was a little underwhelming but the hot springs was perfect! there was also a waterfall bath which was a nice experience. the sand bath was a "do it yourself" situation where you dig a hole and cover yourself. it was nice; i recall i fell asleep. It was a little underwhelming; i would do just the hot springs again though! Also, the sand bath area was kind of small and co-ed, 7-8 rows and probably fit 4 people per row. Other than that, Hyotan had a dining restaurant and tried the cold ramen; refreshing after a nice hot dip! Getting around Beppu was easy for me. i was mostly around just the hot spring area and the area of the 7 devil hot springs (which i ran out of time and did not get to do all but was happy i got to do at least 5). the area was also kind of hilly... so one may be walking uphill a bit but no big deal, not a steep incline. Overall, Beppu was a great experience and I would come back for the hot springs as it's what the town is known for!

Nice family onsen onsite but there was a small charge.
Nice family onsen onsite but there was a small charge. Breakfast was fabulous. Served in a cubicle for my family of 3. Free basement parking at the hotel and more than sufficient parking lots. Nice also that the bus boy was right at our car once we drove in and helped to carry our bags.

There are only 8 Hells of Beppu to visit. 1-2 days is just right. Plenty of good restaurants in town. Michelin Guide restaurant called "Arabata" is highly recommended. They serve the best beef in town and the price is reasonable!

Beppu is one of the smallest cities I've visited in Japan.
Beppu is one of the smallest cities I've visited in Japan. Surprisingly, many people here speak English due to frequent interactions with non-Japanese visitors. The city is famous for its hot springs, boasting numerous traditional Japanese onsen. During winter, the city takes on a magical and mysterious ambiance due to the steam and mist enveloping it. The locals are friendly and very helpful. While getting around by bus is convenient, taking a walk through the city of spirits is an experience one should miss.
For such a good price you get a traditional Japanese apartment all for yourself! It was clean, comfortable and cozy. There is no shower, but they give you towels to use in public baths (and there are tons of them around). Speaking of which, the location is amazing, it's in the coolest area of Beppu where steam is coming out of the ground on the streets. There is a big popular onsen in 5 minute walk and smaller ones just around the corner. The owner was very nice and told me about the best onsens and sightseeing spots in the area.
We booked rooms with half-board which included the traditional Japanese breakfast and dinner. The tatami rooms were very spacious with a sea view (at the waterfront). The food was plenty and tasty. As we booked for 2 nights with half-board, they made sure to offer different menues over the 2 days (9-course dinner). There were an indoor and roof-top/outdoor common onsen-baths with sufficient space for relaxing. The hotel personnel was very friendly.
Brilliant location, hardly 5-7 minutes walk away from Beppu train Station. Check-in is at 4PM but you can leave your luggage and explore the city. With a lush green garden and authentically styled rooms - our stay was relaxing and comfortable. There's a private indoor and outdoor onsen too. We were served an excellent spread of Japanese breakfast. Only tip, If you have heavy luggage, just request for ground floor room.
This place was centrally located in Beppu. It is a charming old style Japanese home, with a shared bathroom upstairs for the guests and one downstairs. There are no bathing facilities in the home, but across the street is a traditional neighborhood house. Though this wasn't a problem for us as we soaked at two different onsens during the day. The owner was very nice.
I stayed at the Amanek Yula Re initially then moved to this hotel when I extended my stay for a few days. Unfortunately this hotel suffered in comparison. It was pretty basic. One thing to note is that you can use all the facilities at the main hotel; rooftop pool and indoor onsen as well as the breakfast if you have purchased that in your package.
Super clean hotel. They even clean the wheels of all of our luggages and make us take off our shoes before we get inside the hotel. Super clean room and still new to me. Nice onsen with the seaview (too bad it was raining so we could not enjoyed the view). Great breakfast and all the staffs at the restaurant were so nice, kind, and friendly.
This hotel is exceptional. I appreciated that the location was slightly away from all the attractions in its own quiet neighborhood, but others may prefer to stay in the midst of the Beppu sights. The food, facilities, onsen and staff were incredible and I am really looking forward to staying here again in the future. Incredible experience!
Amazing location if arriving by train - barely a 2 minute walk. Magnificent onsen in the hotel. Staff super helpful and friendly, spoke good English. Breakfast was very good for the budget: some Western (cereal, toast, bread, yoghurt) as well as the usual Japanese options. The hotel itself seems very new, and everything is spotless.
Wonderful newly opened hotel conveniently located a block from Beppu Train Station. We really enjoyed the onsen facilities on-site, they have a variety of private ones that are first come, first served, and communal gender-segregated baths with a sauna and cold plunge pools. Staff were super courteous and rooms very comfortable!
- Architecture of the hotel is mind blowing. The place itself should be the attractions of Beppu.
- Room is spacious with private onsen in every room.
- Staffs are nice and friendly with high quality service.
- Food is well-prepared and high quality.
- Technology in the room is appreciative. Speaker/ Robot vacuum etc.
Yamada Bessou is a traditional Japanese house which eludes serenity and grace. The rooms
were well equipped and was very clean. The onsen facilities were exceptional and excellent. The hotel manager was very friendly and helpful and it made me feel like home. I will come back again.
The buffet breakfast was very nice, it can get crowded at times though. Onsen was nice. Rooms were clean. The location near Beppu station was very convenient. We also enjoyed the free drinks in the evening. Would stay here again
It was quite difficult to find the hotel at first. It is located in the Onsen area n also walking distance to restaurants. The staff is very helpful n friendly. Onsen in the hotel itself. Parking is free n near hotel.
We stayed 1 night in Nogami Honkan which is 7 minutes away from Beppu Station. Our room was big with tatami beds for 4. We paid 500 yen for private onsens and the morning Japanese breakfast was a wonderful experience.
Next to the train station. I can see the platform from my window, quite interesting. It has an elevator. The best thing is that I can go to onsen in a nearby hotel for free.
We loved the onsen! So nice. The room was very comfortable and had a nice view of Beppu. This hotel is in a great location, just a short drive to other spas!
