The views were stunning. The bathroom was modern, and there was quite a bit of space in the studio apartment. It would be great for a couple or a solo traveler who needs to work remotely (there is a big desk). You could make do for a family of 3 as there is a comfy day bed in the living room. The restaurant is directly below the studio, so it’s convenient for dining. The breakfast was generous.

We stayed at Dom Dinis, overlooking the valley below, in December 2023. Hardly any tourists, wonderfully friendly area. Be sure to visit the church (Igreja de Santiago) of which Saramago wrote on his journey around Portugal! We ate at the excellent Varanda do Alentejo, the lamb stew was fantastic.

The castle is a must see.
The castle is a must see. The views from all directions were unobstructed and gave one the feeling of what it must have been like centuries before when the castle was used as a defensive weapon. Well worth the trip and one had access to almost the entire outer wall.

We stayed in Marvão for 3 days, 2 nights and spent the days touring around. I HIGHLY recommend taking the biking tour with Rail Bike Marvão, it's 16km through the heart of Marvão's nature.
I also HIGHLY recommend you visit the small town or Castelo de Vide.

Just being here gives a lift to the soul!
Just being here gives a lift to the soul! It is beautiful, everyone is so friendly, every winding street you walk down brought a smile to my face, and THAT VIEW!! You turn a corner and it takes your breath away. I walked here from Castelo de Vide and the path was well marked and gorgeous, with birds of prey hovering and I even saw what I think is an Egyptian mongoose.... Lots of beautiful arts and crafts and good restaurants. I stayed at the Estalagem de Marvao which couldnt be faulted, really beautiful and friendly. Totally recommended (tho some parts of the town walls are not for the faint hearted - but there are plenty of steps down if it gets too much for the vertiginous!).
The location of the property was very central to seeing everything in Marvao. Nice terrace with good views. We had the two bedroom room, with rooms more spacious than expected and a TV in each. Large modern bathroom and a small bar fridge. The breakfast that is included is in the restaurant across the road and was the best we had had. Eggs, bread, rolls, croissants, fruit, orange juice, coffee. There was so
much food and it was delicious. Marvao is probably one of the best Hill top village we saw on our trip.
We loved this hotel.
The owner Joaquim was very friendly. He welcomed us personally with some small talk .
He gave us all the information we needed about the hotel and the village of Marvão.
The room was very spacious and very clean.
The bathroom had a big window, and was well ventilated.
Wi-fi was very good all around the room.
Breakfast was good, and served based on the request of each one of the guests.
Free parking near the hotel.
Check-in/out with Sonia was easy and she was very welcoming. We really appreciated her kind gifts of bread, chorizo, jams and red wine - all of which were delicious.
It is a lovely house with everything you need to self-cater. It has a fabulous outdoor area with lots of seating, a swimming pool with loungers and a BBQ. The location is very scenic and ideal to visit Marväo and Castelo de Vide. We would have loved to have stayed longer.
A wonderful and enchanting place to stay in the small hilltop village of Marvao! We had the entire house and it was like living in a fairytale. We watched the sunset on one side of the castle and the moonrise from our terrace. Stunning! The full eclipse of the moon was in the early morning so I walked alone through the walled village but the moon had already set and it was just me, a white cat and two birds in the pre dawn stillness.
Gorgeous little house, completely redone with attention to the minimal details. very peculiar division of the space, which makes it very cozy and architecturally amazing. Everything seems to be brand new, sparkling clean, and they thought of absolutely everything a guest May want or need. The hosts Alexandra and José were fantastic. A flawless, extremely comfortable and peaceful place firm which to enjoy the magic of Marvão!
Cashinha de Marvao is full of character and is in a central location in the old town, with stunning views towards Spain. The house is very comfortable, especially the living room, which is really cosy in the evening with the wood burner on. The house is well equipped and the hosts have left useful information about the local area. This is our second stay at Casinha de Marvao and we loved it just as much the second time.
The location was great (within the fortified walls of Marvao, walking distance to everything). Note that this property has two units: the larger is on the second story with more windows and light, a balcony and views over the city walls. The first floor unit is small and quite dark with small windows looking at the walls.
A comfortable and cozy place to stay in Marvão. There is an amazing common area where you can relax next to a wood stove and reflect on your good fortune to have found such an amazing town and hotel. The breakfast is beautiful and delicious and everyone at Estalagem de Marvão is warm and kind.
The staff is friendly and helpful. The location is just perfect for enjoying the calm, close to a lot of interesting historical places to visit, and very close to the city of Marvão which is a must to visit.
Pets allowed and private parking just perfect.
I arrived late and left early, and did not have breakfast. The site in Marvao is extraordinary. The host was very kind to wait for my arrival, just before sunset. The room was fine, the setting was perfectly quiet and still.
beautiful 1 night stay in Marvao, it was a quiet winter night so we were the only ones there! very friendly staff, super clean, cozy room, great breakfast, easy parking & great location. we had a lovely time.
What a great view from the window! Hotel is in a nice area with a pretty river that goes to an old bridge and tower.
Bathroom is good, beds are comfy and there are many plugs. WiFi was good.
