Very close to the Miyanoura port which was very convenient. Breakfast was good and rooms were comfortable

The food was really imcredible - so many delicious Japanese dishes for dinner and breakfast. Only 4 guest room and each looks out onto the sea. Staff were superb especially the 81 year old working manager who is so sweet! No one speaks English there although our group speak Japanese. We used this as a base to do the 30KM Jomon Sugi (cedar) hike to one of the world's oldest trees - some 7000 years old. Tough hike in light rain and slippery in places but well worth it.

Anbo is a small town, and the hostel is located above the main junction, next to the bus stops and across the bridge from the kayak rental. It's a good location.
The bed itself was pretty comfortable and although there weren't any lockers, the 6-bed room only had maximum of 3 people in it, so we were able to keep things next to our beds. I was allowed to keep my luggage late on check-out.
The shower had good pressure and the laundry was cheap and efficient (100 yen for 60 minutes wash/dry, 50 yen for detergent from the shop downstairs).
Situated in Yakushima and only 12 km from Shiratani Unsuikyo, Minnsyuku Yakushimaya features accommodation with sea views, free WiFi and free private parking.

It's located in front of one of the bus stops in Miyanoura. It's very convenient to move around and close to the Miyanoura port and tourist information center. The room I stayed in was very comfortable, wide and clean. The receptionist was very kind and accommodating. I could do the check-in procedure earlier since I wanted to take the bus to do one of the trails. She showed me around and took my luggage to the room when it was ready. When I came back from the hike I could go straight to the room to rest and do my laundry.

The hosts are so incredibly friendly and were able to accommodate us arriving early, even having the room ready though we didnt expect that. They were SO helpful in arranging for a rental car as well. We had breakfast one morning too, which was super delicious. They gave us lots of information on things to do and see in Yakushima. Its located on the hill, just five minutes drive from the port so you definitely need a car. It was very quiet and you could see so many stars from the yard. The bed is a traditional futon room, and it was very comfortable. We had amazing weather while there so actually had to turn the air conditioning on a couple times.
Shiratani Unsuikyo was breathtaking. Jumonsugi Cedar trail was an adventure but not as pretty as Shiratani Unsuikyo. I am glad I did it but would not do it again. I will remember Shiratani Unsuikyo for the rest of my life as one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen and I have travelled a lot. Words cannot describe how beautiful it was. I wish I had 4 nights here. I needed one more day to explore the island. People should think twice about doing Jumonsugi trail. It is a lot and quite hard. Do it for the adventure but not for the views.

Incredible island full of wonderful nature toe explore, I could have spent 5 days here probably, although a car rental would be really helpful. The buses and taxis are relatively expensive and not always available or convenient.

You have to hike on Yakushima to really appreciate it.
You have to hike on Yakushima to really appreciate it. The drive into the hills to get to these walks is incredible. The walks through moss and forests of ancient trees is brillant. It is like stepping into another world on Yakushima. If not into hiking, then the waterfalls and beaches and tide pools are also great.

It is an amazing island with beautiful nature and scenery but not well developed infrastructure and scarce public transport system. Best to rent a car, otherweise it limits activity on the other side of the island. Realisticly speaking the one destination visit per day is maximum with public transport. It is also necessary to begin early, as there are not really activities just for a half day (due to bus schedules). Therefore a 3 days stay may be a bit too short considering travel time with a ferry. It is good idea to shop before reaching island as there is limited supermarket choice.

Very wild Island.
Very wild Island. Good for people liking forest and trails, not good for people liking beaches. Not touristic Island. Organic Island, locals people are nice and helping. No shops. 7 days is enough to stay and visit.

We loved being in nature every day.
We loved being in nature every day. Almost wherever you go, you have a view of the mountains and ocean. There are beautiful flowers everywhere. The less demanding hiking trails are interesting and fun and the waterfalls are spectacular. The onsens--especially the ocean onsen--are varied. The residents are friendly and helpful.
This was my first time staying in a yurt, and Daichan House did not disappoint! Although we arrived well past sunset, Daichan was very energetic and friendly. After showing us around the property, he gave a little history lesson on Daichan House as well as Yakushima. He prepared a laminated booklet with photos and English descriptions. It was fun to talk with Daichan, which we probably did for over an hour. The yurt and shared restrooms were well-maintained. Free hot water, tea, coffee, and a local mikan orange were also provided :)
My friend and I had an incredible stay at Yakunoyado Taguchi! To begin, the hosts were so kind and accommodating for us even before we got off the ferry. When we had a question about renting a car on the island, the hosts helped reserve a car for us and also picked us up from the ferry port! The hosts also gave us the best recommendations for hiking trails, swimming spots, beaches and places to see monkeys and deer on the island. This rental was the best experience we’ve had on our whole trip and made Yakushima even better!
Beautiful building, amazing location, friendly and personable host who lives near the property. Kitchen filled with everything needed for home cooking, and a coffee machine. Heaters, fans, coolers, comfortable mattresses, sheets and towels - everything you could need was supplied. It felt like a dream home.
Tropical islands such as Yakushima do have large spiders and insects - be sure to keep mesh window screens closed and consider carefully using bug spray provided by the host, or bringing your own preferred type.
We loved this secluded cottage in the woods by a rushing river. The hand built cottage with pine interior is comfortable and has all one needs in a mountain cottage. It is quite spacious and relaxing. The owner Sato-san is friendly and helpful. We had a great week. One does need a car, but then that's really helpful anyway to get around Yakushima to the trails, etc. A perfect place to avoid the crowds.
We were so grateful to Yuki-san for helping us plan our trip! She booked our rental car and our ferry tickets to and from the island. She also had great recommendations for where to go while we were in Yakushima. My husband and I shared her large sashimi plate for dinner, and it was delicious! We wish we could have stayed longer and would love to stay again if we ever return to Yakushima.
hotel staffs are very kind and the location was so convenient.
Especially one of the staff was so kind that he always open to suggest local spots to visit and these were all so beautiful. (My recommendation was crystal-misaki which was close from the hotel by car). I am just so thankful to the staff all the time (I am so sorry about I didn’t ask him name…,)
Phenomenal location with convenient access to restaurants, grocery stores, rental services, and Shiratani Unsuikyo. The owner was a very helpful guide and provided lots of good advice and guidance around the island.
The Guesthouse atmosphere was relaxed and also made for easy and enjoyable connections between guests.
We had our own spacious cottage with a terrace facing a small garden. We had a shared bathroom that looked like a small onsen, big, extremely clean and with a hot bath, also facing the nature. We slept so well!!
We didn't have a car and the host drove us and our friends to the ferry pier; this was very nice of them.
Location is absolutely beautiful. Owner Hero-san knows everything about Yakushima & suggested us how to get to the places & times of buses. Last day, he sent us to local home cooking restaurant/Cafe which we thought incredibly charming & food was excellent !
Location was nice and central to the sights we wanted to see. Ryo san was very helpful and welcoming and would definitely recommend anyone visiting Yakushima to stay here. Ryo san helped us organise bento boxes before our hike which was very handy.
Everything!
Nice little bathtub in each house. Soothing after a long day hike!
The host is exceptionally friendly and welcoming. I travel alone and she has took good care of me!
Staying here definitely enhanced my experience in Yakushima :)
Japanese-type breakfast was great. Lunch bento for hiking also great. Hiking gear available for rent. For dinner, restaurant with good atmosphere was on the water next to the hotel.
Hotel is on the road leading to popular hiking trails.
The accommodation is 2min walking distance to the ferry.
The staff was very kind and accommodating, providing all the necessary info to get around.
7 min walking distance from this place is a supermarket, which we used every day.
Amazing option in Yakushima. Very nice hosts in Hitomi and Shigeru who will help you with your planning or even to rent a car. Best food with homestyle japanese cooking for breakfast and dinner. Thank you for the experience!!!
This is a great spot in a secluded part of Yakushima! The guesthouse is recently remodeled but in the traditional style, so if you're a light sleeper it might be useful to bring earplugs — paper walls don't block much sound.
The hostel owner is really friendly and happy to help, we felt like a family there. Facilities are clean, big kitchen with all what we needed available. Very great value - a gem in Yakushima! We will stay again.
We had a wonderful stay in Morino Fairy. We were very well looked after by the owner and there's lots of useful information about Yakushima in the property. I loved the outdoor terrace and bath.
Because the property sits on a spit of land at the southern end of Yakushima, you can actually enjoy both sunrise and sunset from the rooms and/or the main terrace. Also, the food was delicious.
