Morino Garden Mashiko, hotel in Mashiko

Featuring free bikes, garden and views of garden, Morino Garden Mashiko is situated in Mashiko, 42 km from Mito Station.

Wonderful stay with lovely host family. Yuriko and her husband were very kind to us and we had a great conversation about life and pottery with the help of Google Translate. Yuriko provided a delicious and hearty home-cooked breakfast and dinner (dinner was arranged in advance, for a very reasonable extra fee), and was able to accommodate our request for vegetarian meals. She also picked us up and dropped us off in Mashiko town and offered to take us to more out-of-the-way pottery shops. The large detached bath house was very relaxing after a day of walking, and everyone in our group slept comfortably in the rooms.

You would need a car to make the most of Mashiko, but it is easy driving and google maps is your friend. Lovely sitting on the deck in the evening and hearing the sounds of nature. Very different to a hotel room, but that only added to its charm

I love pottery and ceramic art, so I enjoyed visiting the small museum and street of pottery shops. They have pottery festivals twice per year. There isn't much else to do besides visit the pottery street, and since it's so close to Utsunomiya, I'd recommend staying in Utsunomiya and renting a car for the day to visit Mashiko.
