We didn't really met with the hosts but they had a great system getting the keys with clear instructions. We're certainly very happy.

A 5-minute walk from Kintetsu Nara Station, Guest House Oku is located a 15-minute walk from JR Nara station. Guest House Oku features a total of 3 guest rooms and free WiFi throughout the property. This was a wonderful guest house stay. Our hostess was so kind and made us feel welcome. My son and I stayed in the room that slept 3 and had a small living space included. It was in a very convenient location and we enjoyed our walk to the Nara park. We would definitely stay here again.

These folks are incredibly generous, warm, interesting people who are fun to be around and who are happy to share their authentic Japanese country home with others. Yuki and KoMay believe in organic, locally produced food and Yuki is an excellent cook. 'Breakfast' turned out to be a genuinely superb three course meal with home made hot soup, a gorgeous plate of all sorts of delicious treats including tempura herbs (from the garden), home made bread and little bean sweet treats. KoMay is working on his organic garden and Yuki turns it into a feast! KoMay is a professional jazz pianist. He is quite brilliant at improvisation and is happy to entertain with music as well as conversation. We felt incredibly privileged to stay with such genuine and interesting people.

I really enjoyed the traditional Japanese home and space. I also enjoyed the host, Jerome, showing me the garden and allowing me to pick vegetables with him to cook. The place is well stocked with needed amenities, and the host did a great job explaining how it all works. Next time I'm in Japan I will try to come back to Nara just to stay here!

This is an excellent Ryokan, not too far from Nara and on the way to Yoshino. The hosts are extremely friendly and will provide you, if you wish, with a Japanese dinner (seafood based) and either a Japanese or Western breakfast - both incur an additional cost. You can also self cater. The place caters for just one set of guests at a time. You have a main room with a table, piano, TV and WiFi, and a room for sleeping in. You leave these rooms to go to the toilet and kitchen area. Shower and bath is around the other side of the building. The house is quite old and is therefore cold overall, however, within your rooms there heaters which keep it very cosy and there are heating mats for the beds. Book here to enjoy a stay in a traditional Japanese house! You can also request a pickup from the train station.
