Sado is a beautiful quiet island with very welcoming people.
Sado is a beautiful quiet island with very welcoming people. It's a little bit difficult to get around, there's buses but they're infrequent so we did the sightseeing taxi to get to the sights further from us, and rented bikes for the closer spots.
In Aikawa there's a cafe with a small cinema in a living room called Cafe Gashima which was so great, and the textile place next door sat us down for tea and snacks and had someone deliver figs when we stopped in. Seriously, the hospitality was so amazing!
The only dark spot was when we tried to book classes at the Aikawa Traditional Skills Museum, we were told they wouldn't take foreigners despite all the brochures in English telling us about the classes
Just a nice place to stay and explore the island. Very nice and friendly staff. Great Onsen to enjoy inside and outside pools with a view to the sea. Breakfast was great with fresh grilled fish on your table griller and a lot of small, different Japanese dishes, miso soup, rice.
Great view to the ocean from the breakfast room.
Vending machines with alcohol and not alcohol drinks.
A supermarket (Lawson) is just 3 minutes away. There are also a souvenir shop inside the hotel, who offers also food and cold drinks.
Staying on the bottom floor facing the ocean the view from the room and the direct access to the hotel grounds were great. You can see the sun set beautifully over the ocean and the rocky coastline is gorgeous. Most of the staff at this hotel is really great. The hotel does do a few special events, like showcasing traditional local dancing, which are nice and easy to join. The Sado Island mixed grasses tea that is constantly offered by the baths is amazing and I wish they sold loose leaf bags of it by the kilo.
This is a full-service hotel set in the middle of Sado City, which is about halfway between the Sado Kisen ports on Sado Island. Bus service to and from the ports is good. It is a very well-run, quiet hotel, with plenty of free parking on site. Our room was very clean and the twin beds were spacious and comfortable. Water pressure was good in the en-suite bathroom, and wifi was stable and speedy. We especially liked the guest laundry facilities and, extra special, the lovely public bath on site.
We loved the rose garden, the surrounding rice fields, the quiet, the den, Hiroko's very helpful and generous ♡ care. And the cats! The location in the center of the isle was a perfect springboard from which we could visit all corners of Sado Isle. (Granted, having a car helps!) The price was also very affordable... For all of these reasons, we came with the intention of staying a couple nights, and trying something else, but ended up staying 7 days. :) It was really lovely.

This place is heaven. Absolutely beautiful, amazing location, great people . I travelled together with my 3yrs old son and everything was just perfect. We planned to stay 3 nights but eventually stayed 7. The owner and the staff were amazing. They really made us feel like we are among friends and family. Thank you for that. I hope it was not our last time in Sado and this beautiful place.
Southern island location near Ogi town, away from the main Sado Island "downtown". Close proximity to Tarai bune experiences, Shukunegi and convenient to get to Sado Island Taiko Centre the next morning. Supermarket and a few delicious dining options available within walking distance. Onsen was a wonderful bonus! Very nice fixed menu breakfast.
The property is exactly as described - a very old traditional Japanese house. It was lovely to stay here and feel the life of this tiny village. The property was clean and easy to manage including being able to cook and wash clothes. It is a beautiful quiet location that is easy to walk around and easy to explore Sado Island from here (with a car).
My friends and I stayed here over the weekend for KODO's Earth Celebration. The owner of the Guest House was very kind and accommodating to us. Even though he didn't speak much English he was still willing to help us out. The location of the place was very useful as it was next to the bus stop which led to the ports either side of the island.
A great place to stay on Sado island.
Best to get a car but if you can't (we forget to get out IDP before leaving the uk) there are buses nearby and we hired bikes as well as using the ones at rosencat.
Peaceful location. Comfortable futons and friendly owner :)
The place is very clean too and the cats are gorgeous
This place was great! It’s a super cute, clean, comfortable hostel close to the beach. It’s at a good central location between a lot of interesting sites on the island. Comfy beds, clean bathrooms, a spacious kitchen, nice staff. Everything here is pretty excellent! I would absolutely stay here again.
The breakfast consisted of Japanese dishes was not only tasty but also pretty. The staff at the restaurant was very kind and tried to make sure we don't miss anything by showing how to eat, etc. The manager at the hotel was the kindest and caring among about 10 hotels I stayed in Japan.
Beautiful location perfect for sunset and. Seaview private onsen . The staff is very friendly and the hotel even arranged for transport to nearby popular izakayas. Best option if planning trip around aikawa area.
Did yoga in morning enjoying the sounds of waves crashing on the shore.
Excellent business hotel, clean room and about the size we expected. Nice public bath. Great staff, very helpful. Free parking. Right in the middle of the island, so although the immediate neighbourhood isn't very special, it's a good base from which to explore.
hotel located at seaside , equipped with a beautiful garden , a nice onsen n beautiful scenery , every room hv sea view with balcony , I can watch sunset from my room every day , tasty food .
More than a guesthouse! It felt like a modern and trendy hotel. I was also surprised about its free toiletries such as the cleansing oil and spa gel skincare.
