Really enjoyed Matsuyama and was sad to leave.
Really enjoyed Matsuyama and was sad to leave. The castle (with its chair lift up to it) was great. There are lots of options for shopping, eating and drinking and the whole area around Dogo Onsen is very nice.

Where there isn’t the sea, the city is surrounded by mountains. With the hill that has the castle on top, it creates a nice atmosphere. The onsen town (Dogo onsen) is where I mostly stayed. It was fun to see people walking around in the street in their yukata.
Like in many Japanese cities, the tram is cute and all, but it’s very inefficient. Moreover, you can only pay with cash or their local IC card. You cannot use standard IC cards like Pasmo, Suica, etc.
We ate at our wonderful hotel (Kowakuen) so I cannot speak about the restaurants.

Beautiful city full of amazing places to visit.
Beautiful city full of amazing places to visit. The must visits are of course the mountain top castle named Matsuyama Castle and also so many others like the Okaido shopping street and the Bansuino old French-style house. There are also delicious foods to try such as the Taimeshi which was delicious as well as the amazingly delicious oranges (mikaan) around the city. There are so many shops selling mikaan and mikaan juice that if you like fruits, you will love this city.

Matsuyama, in the winter at least, is pretty boring.
Matsuyama, in the winter at least, is pretty boring. The big onsen that they go on about is a tourist trap so I would not waste your time. I was told Spring and Fall were the best times to go as the Summer is hot and humid. The people seem OK but don’t really want to be bothered by foreigners.

I visited Matsuyama as part of the 88 temple Henro pilgrimage and so took in several temples, shrines and the Matsuyama Castle which is the most impressive castle I have visited in Japan thus far. The hot springs are also excellent and plenty of nightlife options.
I like that this hotel chain has free breakfast.
The staff was also very friendly and tried to communicate with hands and feet. Apparently nobody speaks English. I speak a bit Japanese though so it wasn’t a problem. They tried to communicate as best as they could and that’s what matters.
The location was walking distance to the Dougo Onsen area with its numerous shopping arcades and restaurants. The room was spacious and clean. The public baths were amazing. The breakfast spread (you can choose between Japanese or Western) was bountiful and delicious.
I really liked the western/Japanese hybrid style room. Very comfortable and all the creature comforts of a Japanese hotel. Private cedar bath included, however the room faces the entrance/road so the ambience isn't the greatest. Overall I quite enjoyed my stay.
The hotel was a few minutes away from the famous Dogo Onsen and associated shopping galleries. The room was large and comfortable, and the building was quite clean. The staff was friendly. It was pleasant to have a sink and toilets in the bedroom.
The location was right across the street from Okaido shopping station and street car stop. Additionally, close to the castle entrance. Staff was very friendly and the hotel was clean. The price for 2 nights was a great value.
Dormy Inn Matsuyama was a clean, simple and efficient hotel in the middle of downtown. It was a convenient spot for our visit to Matsuyama Castle. Nice to have variety of breakfast items and onsen hot spring bath!
The room is comfortable and the owner is very friendly. Its exceeded my expectations. The place is clean too.
Will definitely come here again if I'm going to Matsuyama.
Excellent shower separated from the tub. Decent size room for the price. Plush towels. Very good breakfast with a large selection of Japanese and Western items.
Orange juice from the tap!
Plenty of amenities available should one wish to go to one of the onsen nearby. The hotel also has free yukata and towel rental
More spacious than the average Japanese hotel room. Very comfortable. Quite well located for the ropeway to the castle.
Included breakfast was very good.
New n updated in facilities. Spacious bedrooms. Almost directly facing Okiado, prime shopping mall for Matsuyama, n n 3 museums within 10 minutes walk.
