The view the room was outstanding! The staff members went above and beyond to help us. My wife has celiac disease and needed special care to be taken with meals and they did an amazing job of providing 2 very large and intricate safe meals each day with no issue.

The man at the front is very enthusiastic and will go out of his way to ensure you have a nice stay. The room and shower areas are very clean, the windows give a nice view and the food and train station are very close. Very quiet part of the city.
Scenic little town with lots to view. We walked the town and explored all the tourist sights. Took a short boat ride around the bay for 1000¥ ,if you want to sit upstairs on boat you’ll need to pay another 600¥. Main Shrine currently under renovation

It's amazing.
It's amazing. There's such an incredible amount to do and see. We explored for 5 hours two days in a row in the freezing cold and would do it again in a heartbeat it was so nice. So many restaurants, hotels, gift shops, places of outstanding beauty, museums... amazing.

It is really a beautiful view, with all those small islands covered with pine trees! The region is very prepared for the tourists, including bridge to one of the islands for people that like to walk around the trees!
The Zuiganji temple is one of the most beautiful I've seen!

Very beautiful coastal town!
Very beautiful coastal town!
Having two different train stations on each side of the town, makes the getting to/from very flexible and easy.
Definitely a must see when visiting Sendai or the Tohoku/Myagi Area.

Matsushima is a tiny place and does not have a lot to offer...
Matsushima is a tiny place and does not have a lot to offer - also like any other traditional Japanese town it closes down at 6 PM - literally. Most restaurants and shops are closed, the streets atr dark. Not much to do. It is a great place for a short stopover.
An amazing traditional Japanese hotel (ryokan), exceeding all expectations. Hotel staff went out of their way to greet the guests and make them feel welcome. Rooms are very stylish and clean, and the view of the Matsushima bay is gorgeous. Amenities include an open-air onsen (hot bath) with the view of the bay. Dinner was also very special and tasty. We had a lovely time here, and if I'm ever visiting Japan again, I'll make sure to return to this ryokan for a couple of days.
The owner of this guesthouse is very friendly and outgoing. He knows about Matsushima and speaks English very well that he can share many tips on visiting Matsushima;
The location is excellent - it sits near the center of Matsushima Bay so that I can visit any sightseeing spots simply by walking.
I would definitely recommend this guesthouse for any backpackers who are looking for a guesthouse to stay for 1-2 nights at Matsushima.
It's a new guesthouse that's a well constructed residential-type home with individual rooms. Everything is modern, with aircon (minisplits) for heating and cooling. The windows are good and effective at soundproofing from outside.
The owner is kind and fluent in English and knows Matsushima very well.
Location can't be beat in the heart of the waterfront area, just a minute walk from the bay!
The excellent breakfast, the jazz music, the wood fire in the evening, the proximity to the town and the park nearby, the easy washing machine and dryer, pleasant, helpful staff. Also the beds were comfortable. The bathroom was small but clean. The Japanese baths were great. We hadn't expected those- so an added extra. The free shuttle service to the station was a good help.
The of if not the best accommodation I've stayed in while in Japan. The owners were lovely, even offered to take us to the train station so we didn't have to walk. The rooms were beautiful and clean, as was the onsen. Highly recommended to anyone staying in the Matsushima area.
The hotel is well located to explore Matsushima
Area. Super view on the bay and safe location in case of natural disaster. The food was fabulous and you should not hesitate to take their half board option to discover some great Japanese food. The room was big. Big onsen
The staff Amazing Kaiseki-ryori dinner and buffet breakfast. Rooftop access gives a good view of the town, but limited view of the bay. The 2 communal onsens are good with the 2 baths rotating between male and female access for the morning and evening.
The room is very large and very well maintained. The hotel overall was a surprise, it's really nice and well designed, much better than most hotels at this price range. Lastly, the owners are very friendly and made our stay a pleasure.
The beautiful hotel had an excellent room with a view. We do not like buffets, but we made exception. Each main meal was made to order. Best high quality sushi and steak. We will definitely recommend to our friends.
Great onsen (women and men separate) with a view on the Matsushima bay from the 5th floor, delicious meals prepared in front of you, refreshments during the day included. Overall very nice chilled experience!
This place was awesome! The owners are so nice and friendly, and had cute dogs. The hotel has stepping stones and was really well managed. We got an upgrade to a larger room, so we were very comfortable!
The hotel was quite nice, little bit old fashioned, but clean. The room was large enough, in traditional Japanese style (tatami).
The spa ("onsen") was really good, we enjoy it very much!
Breakfast and dinner were exceptional. Our room was large and the views across Matsushima Bay breathtaking. Loved the onsen experience. Staff was very helpful.
