One of my favorite towns in Japan. It has a diverse selection of food and entertainment, as well as lovely parks, museums, and a low-key atmosphere. A nice balance between the nearby country-side of the Shunan area, and the bustling city-life of Hiroshima.
Night life is vibrant and affordable. Public transit is easy to use, and taxis are easy to call.
Very easy to reach the Hiroshima station from this city to continue your journey through Japan.

Iwakuni is a small declining country town with a much bigger city close by. That said the bridge and the area around it is worth a visit. It can easily be done as a side day trip from Hiroshima. Although in the time of Corona, staying in a quieter, less busy location does have it's benefits.
